Eaton Corporation representatives of Southfield, Mich., visited Kettering’s campus in early December to deliver the first installment of a four-year grant for $40,000 to Dr. K. Joel Berry, department head for Mechanical Engineering. The Eaton donation will be used for research to develop efficient air management modules for fuel cell systems. The donation, part of a $40,000/four year pledge, will also support a graduate student in Mechanical Engineering who will work with the Automotive Advanced Product Development Division of Eaton in cooperation with faculty and Kettering's Center for Fuel Cell Systems and Powertrain Integration. http://www.kettering.edu/news/archivedDetail.asp?storynum=185

Berry said partnering with the Eaton Corporation allows Kettering to "advance the state of technological development and commercialization of fuel cell systems in the automotive industry."

Eaton Corporation also supports Kettering through its Cooperative Education program by employing approximately 15 professional co-op students. Eaton is a diversified industrial manufacturer with 2003 sales of $8.1 billion. The company is a global leader in fluid power systems and services for industrial, mobile and aircraft equipment; electrical systems and components for power quality, distribution and control; automotive engine air management systems, powertrain solutions and specialty controls for performance, fuel economy and safety; and intelligent truck drivetrain systems for safety and fuel economy.
