WHAT'S AT STAKE FOR MICHIGAN?
In the tradition of Charles Kettering, one of America's most innovative automotive pioneers and co-founder of the Delco Products Division of General Motors Corporation, Kettering University envisions Michigan accelerating its leadership in the future generation of hydrogen-powered automobiles. The University's long and successful track record of educating and training world-class automotive engineers and building cooperative relationships with manufacturing companies, can serve as a model and asset to Michigan as the state seeks to successfully position itself as a major player in the transformation to a hydrogen-fueled economy.
To do so, Michigan must retain and build upon its legacy as the international automotive capital of the world and move aggressively to:
- Attract power electronics manufacturing firms to relocate in Michigan.
- Increase the state's role in vehicle assembly.
- Attract the leading fuel-cell manufacturers to relocate in Michigan.
- Prepare tomorrow's workforce through engineering education and training programs for fuel cells and hydrogen-powered applications service technicians.
- Capture new service jobs stimulated by a shift to a hydrogen-fueled economy.
