Vision 

 

Kettering — with its partners in industry, academia and government — envisions a future in which fuel cell systems will be the principal power source for automobiles and other vehicles, consumer products, as well as large and small-scale stationary power systems. Fuel cells for transportation applications will be manufactured in Michigan at high volume and low cost by a cadre of highly skilled fuel-cell engineers and manufacturing technicians.

WORLD-CLASS FUEL CELL WORKFORCE
The Center will lead Michigan and the nation in educating current and future generations of engineers to conduct world-class fuel cell systems R&D, testing and evaluation, and improve manufacturing capacity, reliability and cost efficiency. Kettering will collaborate with other education and training institutions to prepare current and future automotive manufacturing and service technicians for the hydrogen-powered economy. To inspire our youth to explore this new frontier, pre-college education programs will be offered to promote acceptance and excitement for a hydrogen-fueled economy.

INCUBATOR FOR INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES
The Center represents an independent Kettering University business enterprise offering testing and research services combined with an incubator environment for supporting tier-one and tier-two companies and their emerging technologies. The primary focus will be fuel cell systems testing and integration, validation of fuel cell codes and standards, and seeking niche research initiatives to advance product development. Incubator support will be provided to promising innovators for R&D, testing and technology spin-offs into Kettering University's research park.

INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH PARK
Kettering University also will attract alternative energy companies to its industrial research park which is designated as a Tax-Free Enterprise Zone. Kettering's funding strategy is to leverage industry support with state and federal funds. An industry consortium comprised of partners will complement the guidance provided by an executive advisory board and the technical expertise of a prestigious science and technology advisory panel.
