Greening public transportation
Kettering University in Flint has partnered with Flint's Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) to conserve energy through the use of hybrid vehicles. Five flower-power mini buses retro-fitted with hybrid electric/diesel systems are cruising city streets using alternative energy and sporting ecology-themed paint jobs. Click Here for the full story.

Lessons in sustainable energy
As the demand for energy increases, the United States seeks a more cost-effective way to energize the nation, to conserve the Earth's natural resources and better protect the environment.
High school students in grades 9-12 traveled from across the nation to get a first-hand look into sustainable energy during the 2007 Sustainable Energy Pre-College Program, which ran from July 16 to 27 at Kettering University. To read the full story Click Here

Renewable Fuels Plan Calls for $200 million in Incentives
In June, the Michigan Renewable Fuels Commission released its plan to encourage the use and production of alternative fuels in an effort to boost the state's agriculture industry. Last July, Gov. Granholm approved a package of bills that called for the increased use of biodiesel and ethanol fuels. As part of the legislation, the 27-member commission was to develop a renewable fuels plan. The 76-page report lists 42 recommendations to boost both fuel production and the state's agriculture sector. Download the full report...

Michigan's Futue
State Representatives Lee Gonzales, (D-Flint Township), Brenda Clack (D-Flint), Ted Hammon (D-Burton) and Richard Hammel (D-Mt. Morris Township) announced the Michigan House majority's plan to tackle the state's challenges head-on and move it in a positive direction. The announcement of the plan was made in the Flint-area in the Fuel Cell Center at Kettering University.

Kettering Sustainable Energy Town Hall Forum & Showcase Event September 15 & 16
Kettering University's Sustainable Energy and Hybrid Technology Showcase on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15-16, will provide invaluable insight into how our world can establish energy security and create a greener environment for future generations. Additionally, this event will serve as a precursor to the Flint area science fair season while offering a glimpse of the University’s high school science and math teacher energy education program under development for January 2007 and currently supported by the Department of Labor.

Fueling Cool Cities
Kettering University was one of two recipients of a $100,000 Cool Cities grant awarded in Flint by the State of Michigan Wednesday, July 19. Kettering will receive $50,000 to support development of the Advanced Technology and Alternative Energy Research (ATAER) building slated to break ground in September.

Governor Granholm Announces Seven Projects Selected as 2006 Cool Cities Designees
LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced that seven projects have been selected for the 2006 Cool Cities Grants and Program. The remaining 2006 Cool Cities designees will be announced on Thursday, July 20 with events at 1:00 p.m. in Grand Rapids at The Hubb, 1515 Madison SE, and at 3:30 p.m. in Old Town Lansing in front of Creole Gallery at 1218 Turner.

Granholm Applauds Decision Awarding Michigan $30 Million in Federal Workforce Innovation Grants
LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today applauded a decision to award Michigan two $15 million grants under the highly competitive Workforce Innovation for Regional Economic Development (WIRED) Program. Granholm submitted the applications on behalf of Michigan communities. Michigan is the only state in the nation to receive two of the grants awarded under the U.S. Department of Labor Initiative.
